The value and challenges of family science

There are so many different ideas and opinions on how the family is organized especially in today’s society. For example, some think that the marriage between a man and a woman with children is the only real family unit, others may say that homosexuality should be acceptable as well. There are also those that stay single. Others debate whether to have two kids, twenty kids or somewhere in between. The real challenge with this topic is finding out who’s right and who’s wrong.Unfortunately, there is also divorce that can break a family apart. A great quote from The New Economic Reality Demographic Winter Part 2 video states that “The family is the natural, fundamental, group unit of society, and is entitled to protection by the state”. First, let’s dive into how the family effects society.

How does the family unit effect specifically population growth? There is a very interesting documentary called “Demographic Winter” that has many fascinating research on the growth in population and keeping the world in balance with itself. For example, in the documentary they found that population has doubled over the past few decades, but what is interesting is that this population has little to do with children being born. It’s actually a result of longer life expectancies. Think about it, if people die just as often as people are born, then there is a balance. But if health is improving and people are living longer, the population grows because there are more living people on the earth at one time. Families are very important, because that’s where children learn and grow. Children equal the future, and the more children learn respect and how to work hard, the children are going to be out there working and contributing to society. This will have a huge impact with productivity with fresh ideas and improvements.

I think it is very interesting that there are many that say a rise in population is bad because the world may get too crowded, however there must be people that can replace those that retire and pass away or else there will be holes in the foundation of society. The family is the biggest generating source for moral and social capital. In other words, children are born and raised in families, then they go off to work which keeps everything going smooth. Within a family, the parent(s) teach their children and help them grow, and whatever they learn, they will more than likely take the principles they’ve learned and become that type of person. In the home, children learn how to get along with siblings, cook, clean and even budget money. There are even religious practices they learn that they carry on to their children. On the flip side, there is also negative lessons children can learn from their parents. These can include selfishness, anger issues, and addictions can soak into a child’s mind and can influence their future. When the family is strong and children learn good life lessons, that is when the world will be a better place.

I wrote about this topic to open up a different perspective and stir up some juicy information about the family relations and world population. The family plays a major part in the economy and improvements for the future to increase efficiency as new ideas are brought to the table. Family rates reflect fertility rates, which improve the world we live in. Below are the links to the Demographic Winter video which explains the statistics and information for this topic very well. If anyone has any questions or comments from the video or what I have said, don’t hesitate to post those.
